This project for the Sioux Falls VA is one of MDM’s Construction’s Design-Build awards. A new pharmacy addition was to be added onto an existing area of the hospital that could meet all current USP 800 requirements. The new building had to fit into a 2,300 square foot area and match exterior for with the surrounding building areas. Design and capabilities had to include all handling of drugs including the receipt, storage, compounding, dispensing, administration, and disposal of sterile and non-sterile preparation of drugs.

The upgrades specific to this scope of work include a separate and enclosed space for receiving supplies, upgrades to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control, a separate area for processing medication for patient consumption (pill crushing), redundant sterile and non-sterile compounding containments, a separate space for sterile area cleaning supplies, and a mechanical and electrical space as required.
