Emergency Building 5 Roof Repairs at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center

Located:
Sioux Falls, SD VA Hospital
Owner:
Department of Veterans Affairs
Contract Awarded:
September 2019
Duration:
270 Calendar Days
Project Value:
$4,294,285

The Sioux Falls VA Medical Center’s roofing system had begun failing. The existing roof, gutters, flashings, scuppers, and peaks were allowing water to penetrate and leak through. This water intrusion posed a safety risk to the patients, staff, and facility functions. This project involved demo and installation of a full roofing system, down to the sheathing and barriers. All of this had to be done after making temporary emergency repairs to allow for the space below to remain open and operational.

The new roof is being constructed from coated steel shingles at a high pitch. The work also includes masonry tuckpointing, upgrading lightning protection, and protection/repair of all existing capstones.
